John Gellatly has several years experience of research and analysis both within the direct property fund management industry as well as more latterly within equities and banking environment and which have ensured a rounded perspective on the asset class and its function within the different markets.
John started with Knight Frank & Rutley in the mid 1980s rising to be Head of Research. He subsequently moved onto work in DTZ Debenham Thorpe's Investment Strategy Unit within their fund management division through the early 1990s before moving to Savills Fund Management as Head of Investment Strategy in 1995.
John transferred into researching the indirect markets four years ago, first working as a pan-European real estate equity analyst at ABN AMRO before joining CSFB where he was a member of the Institutional Investor Ranked Real Estate Equity Research team for two years running.
He then transferred within CSFB to join the Real Estate Investment Banking team with the remit to develop the Firm's institutional capital placement capabilities in the provision and structuring of core and core plus indirect property vehicles across Europe.
John has now joined Merrill Lynch Investment Management as Head of indirect property investment and strategy.
John is a member of the UK Society of Investment Professionals (UKSIP), the Society of Property Researchers (SPR), and sits on the BDO Property Company Awards Committee as well as the British Council of Shopping Centres Investment and Research Committee.
In addition he is a member of the Management Board of the Investment Property Forum as well as Chairing the Research Steering Committee.
