Kenneth W. Hardeman

Ken Hardeman grew-up in Aston and has lived all his life in Birmingham. A production engineer by training, he served in the Parachute Regiment, before entering the catering industry, where he owned and managed a series of quality restaurants in and around Birmingham.
Ken Hardeman was a founder member of the West Midlands Council of Housing Associations and is a past Chairman of the Independent Broadcasting Authority’s Midlands Regional Panel.
Ken Hardeman was first elected to Birmingham City Council in 1966. He served as a councillor for Moseley and more recently as a councillor for Brandwood. He has been the Birmingham Conservative Party’s spokesman on various issues.
Councillor Hardeman was a leading figure in the City Council’s Scrutiny process. As the Chairman of Local Services, Community Safety, Leisure, Sport & Culture Scrutiny Committee, he led the investigation into Birmingham’s Capital of Culture bid.
Since June 2004, Councillor Hardeman has been the Cabinet Member for Regeneration in the Progressive Partnership Administration (Conservative, Liberal-Democrat). In this role he is responsible for strategic planning, economic development (including the redevelopment of Eastside) and urban design in Birmingham.
On a personal level, Ken Hardeman is married with two children and a young grandson. His interests include the arts, theatre and sport. He is a member of the Urban Land Institute.
