Psychologist and Psychoanalyst, graduated from the PUC-SP. PHD in Clinical Psychology from the Michigan State University and a Post-Grad from Stanford University. She is member of the Brazilian Society of Psychoanalysis and member of the International Psychoanalytical Association (IPA)
Marta Suplicy has extensive experience in Brazilian Politics. She has been affiliated to the PT since September 1981. She was Federal Member of Parliament between 1995 and 1998 and was elected on two occasions the most active MP in the National Congress by the DIAP – Departamento Intersindical DE Asesoría Parlamentaria. In 1998 she stood as PT candidate for Governor of São Paulo.
In 2001 she was appointed as Mayor of São Paulo, which she carried out until 2004, the year in which the International City and Town Council fusion presided, a fusion of the three biggest worldwide Mayor entities. The Federación Mundial de Ciudades Unidas (FMCU), The Unión Internacional de Autoridades Locales (IULA) and The Metropolis, a network that unites cities with a population grater than 1 million.
Marta Suplicy has been the Minister of Tourism since March 2007, in place during the second term of office of the President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
