Barcelona Meeting Point

José Antich Valero was born on the 23rd of June 1955 in La Seu d’Urgell (Lérida), is married with four children and is a journalist.

In 1977 he was a writer for the Agencia Efe en Barcelona. In 1978 he took part in the founding articles of the newspaper “El Periódico de Catalunya”, where he started his career as political feature writer, where he worked on and paid special attention to Catalan affairs. In 1982 he formed part of the new founding team of the Catalan edition of “El País”, where he worked as political correspondent. From 1994 until 1998 he was Chief Political Writer for “La Vanguardia” and from 1998 until 2000 he took on the coordination of all the political affairs at “La Vanguardia”.

On the 21st of March he was appointed Director of “La Vanguardia”.

He is the author of “El Virrey” (Editorial Planeta, 1994), a political study into Jordi Pujol.

In 2004 he was awarded the “VIII Fundación Independiente de Periodismo Camilo José Cela” prize.
