Gareth Parker is Director, Indices at IPD where he is responsible for all aspects of the management and development of IPD’s domestic and international indices. Gareth works closely with index users to understand their index requirements and to develop IPD’s product range accordingly. He is also closely involved with the developing property derivatives market, and is a regular speaker on the international conference circuit and in the media.
Gareth’s career before IPD was primarily with FTSE, where he undertook roles encompassing the calculation and management of indices, the operation of data services, the provision of consultancy services for FTSE’s clients, and the design of indices: he designed the pan-European FTSEurofirst Index Series, the FTSE techMARK indices and the FTSE / ATHEX Greek domestic market indices, amongst others. He also designed and oversaw the implementation of a new equity classification system, the International Classification Benchmark (ICB).
Gareth is a regular speaker on the finance conference circuit and acts as a media spokesperson for the company. He has a Philosophy, Politics and Economics degree read at New College, Oxford University, and his interests include hang gliding, sailing & climbing.
