Mr. Sobel is CEO of Alfa Capital Partners, a private equity and real estate investment advisory firm, which advises three funds (real estate, private equity and infrastructure) with over US$700 mln under management. From 1994-1997 Mr. Sobel co-founded and managed Baring Asset Management’s US$160 mln First NIS Regional Fund, SICAF. Richard has significant direct investment experience in Russia with deals such as VimpelCom, Golden Telecom, Borjomi, Burren Energy, Global Telesis, Volgatanker, Noble Gibbons, World Class, Russian Logistic Services, Yolki-Palki, and Nezavisimost. He previously worked in Moscow with Batterymarch Financial Management and the EBRD, and in the US with Partminer, Bain & Company, and Amara Capital. Richard is an American national, fluent in Russian, with an MBA from Harvard Business School and a bachelor degree from Stanford University.
