Jerome S. Engel is an accomplished entrepre¬neur, venture capitalist and educator. He is the founder and Executive Director of the Lester Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the Haas School of Business, University of Cali¬fornia, Berkeley. Joining the faculty in 1991 after a accomplished career in business, Mr. Engel chairs the schools entrepreneurship program and specializes in Entrepreneurship, New Venture Finance, Corporate Innovation, Venture Capital and Private Equity.
Mr. Engel is a published author, frequent speaker, and a cited authority in the press, including the Wall Street Journal and The New York Times among others. In addition to his University responsibilities, Mr. Engel is also a General Partner of Monitor Ventures Partners, a venture capital firm organized in collaboration with the Monitor Group, a global strate¬gic consulting and private equity management firm.
Prior to joining the faculty at Berkeley Mr. Engel was a Partner at the global accounting and consulting firm of Ernst & Young where he foun¬ded and served as Managing Partner of the San Francisco Bay Area Entrepreneurial Services practice. In addition to being an audit partner shepherding venture capital funded ventures through their Initial Pu¬blic Offerings, Mr. Engel specialized in consulting on capital formation, corporate strategy and management organization of entrepreneurial ventures, with an emphasis in software and biotechnology. In 1990, Mr. Engel was appointed Ernst & Young’s National Director of Capital Resources, where he directed efforts to raise capital for its emerging business clients nationwide.
His current board of directors positions include Adaptive Planning, Jupi¬ter Systems, MedAmeriaca and the Berkeley Entrepreneurship Labora¬tory. He is a CPA and with degrees from Penn State University and the Wharton School, at the University of Pennsylvania.
