John was the lead advisor in the October 2009 $1.65 billion recapitalization of Songbird/Canary Wharf Group which raised $1.2 billion of committed capital from the Qatar Holdings (QIA) and China Investment Corporation (CIC) and he acted as lead advisor to Multi Corp in their March 2010 €1.5 billion sale and joint venture of assets to Corio. John was previously Global Co-Head of Morgan Stanley Real Estate (MSRE) from 2005-2007, active in over 20 countries, encompassing principal investing and investment banking, and a member of the Global Investment Banking Division’s six-person Operating Committee. Prior to forming GreenOak in May 2010, John was the founder and Managing Partner of Alpha Real Estate Advisors LLP (formed December 2008) following his retirement from Morgan Stanley in November 2008 after 21 years at the Investment Bank.
John is a director of the Executive Board of the European Public Real Estate Association (EPRA), the governing association of the listed real estate sector in Europe; a Trustee of the Urban Land Institute and member of its Finance Committee (which, among other responsibilities, manages the Institute’s endowment); a member of the Dean’s Council of the Yale School of Architecture; and a member of the Acquisitions Committee (Asian Art) of the Tate Modern. Graduated with a BA from, Yale University in 1987, where he is a member of the Executive Committee of the $3.5 billion “Yale Tomorrow” campaign and the Chairman of the Class of 1987 Quarter Century Fund.
