Jordi William Carnes

Jordi William Carnes i Ayats (Barcelona, 1959) is a Catalan philologist and politician. Graduated in Germanic Philology by the University of Barcelona, he has worked as an English teacher for GCE A-level studies as well as for second degree of professional training at Acadèmia Penyalver (1980-1983) and at Escola Modeclar of Barcelona. He has also worked as a Technician for the Youth Department at the Diputació de Barcelona (1984-1988), where he was assigned of developing several tasks on youth city polices. At the Diputació de Barcelona, he has been coordinator of the socialist group (1989-1991), commissioner for the Intersectorial Programmes and Territorial Affairs, assistant to the Head of the Presidential Office (1991-1996) and Head of the Presidential Office (1996-2000).
He has also held the position of Director of Rural Development (2003-2006) at the Department of Agriculture, Stock Farming and Fishing of the Catalan Autonomous Government. He was elected Member of Parliament belonging to the PSC-PSOE party at the elections to the Catalan Parliament on 2006 and he has also been during a short period of time the Minister of Agriculture, Stock Farming and Fishing of the Catalan Autonomous Government (2006).
