Nigel Baker joined Microsoft in 2004 as the Director of Corporate Services – International for the Europe, Middle East and Africa region (EMEA). The area of indirect responsibility covered five disciplines, namely Real Estate and Facilities, Travel and Entertainment, General Procurement, Marketing Procurement and the Auto Programme.
The EMEA region covers in excess of 67 countries, 210 properties, providing over 5ft².
Nigel acted as the EMEA transition manager to restructure all of Real Estate and Facilities and Procurement, two separate World Wide RE&F and General Procurement organisations.
As at July 1st 2007, Nigel assumed the direct RE&F responsibility for all countries in EMEA and was promoted to Senior Director EMEA RE&F. This role includes responsibility and accountability for all RE&F matters, working with an internal team of approximately 43 staff and over 300 partners.
Before joining Microsoft, Nigel was the Director of EMEA Real Estate at EDS (Electronic Data Systems). He held this position for over 5 years. During his time there, he was accountable for the property portfolio for the region, which included handling new acquisitions, disposal of properties, lease renewals and re-gearing of leases. One of the key success factors made within the region during his time was the decrease in the number of mt² per head and the very successful FM outsourcing programme including countries, such as the UK, Belgium, France and Germany.
Nigel qualified as a surveyor and operated as a developer for a number of years. He lives in Chiswick, West London with his wife and son and enjoys sailing and skiing.
