| RICS Conference on International Real Estate Investment will take place on October 26th, 2005 |
 |
| The poor returns available from equities and other asset classes in recent years have led to a boom in real estate investment both in the developed world and in emerging markets. For instance, gross returns from real estate in Europe during 2004 were around 10% whilst China received over $50 billion of foreign direct investment in the same year.
Whilst this boom will inevitably tail off as the scale of investment drives down yields, there is increasing recognition that real estate should form a significant part of any balanced investment portfolio. The growing interest in real estate has been accompanied by a boom in new types of real estate investment vehicles around the world, a trend that is opening up real estate investment to a wider pool of investors.
Against this background RICS is organising a one-day conference at the Barcelona Meeting Point on 26 October, which will: Analyse the Real Estate Investment Environment; Give an overview of the Global Investment scene; Survey the state of Real Estate Investment Markets in regions around the world; and Examine investor needs; Review the range of new Investment Vehicles coming on stream - both pooled investment vehicles and derivatives
The full programme of speakers will be available shortly. All RICS students will gain free admission to this conference when they register with RICS before 19 October 2005.
